Wind is a multi faceted thing. With speeds and intensities ranging from the calmest breeze to the most raging tornado, hurricane, and tsunami, simply identifying a day as windy is not good enough. Politicians bursting with enticing words are often called wind bags, air headed individuals are said to be balloon heads, and quick tempered people are called full of hot air. Wind has a central location in all of our lives. We have seen the devastation of tornados numerous times in this decade, but yet have felt the calm, cooling power of an evening summer’s breeze. The power and intensity of wind and air has the ability to bring peace to our situation, stir up the ground in our yards, or completely alter the landscape of our cities.
I began to think of the changing power and element of a wind. There is nothing more refreshing than wind when you have been outside in scorching temperatures. There is nothing more beautiful than watching the wind as it descends upon the beach and causes the waves to lap up upon shore. The bible makes many references to wind and the changing elements. One of our most familiar passages of scripture when it relates to wind can be found in the book of ACTS.
Acts 2:1-4
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
With the life changing power of wind in the secular realms, as Christians we need to tap into the refreshing, cutting, powerful, life altering power of spiritual wind. Many Christians and people walk around depressed, however, wind is a substance that lifts things up. In the midst of a tornado, no one is concerned about things staying low and down, the concern is the “pick me up” force associated with these high powered winds. If we could get in the vein of the wind of the spirit, being downtrodden would be the least of our concerns. We need to get caught in the eye of the storm and allow God to do the things that wind does. It breaks things, it uplifts things, and its calming breeze can comfort and cool.
Many of our lives and cities need shaken up and we have what it takes to do so. We have the wind of the spirit moving in our lives. God is calling us with the breeze of his word and we must respond to him to be caught in the flow of what he is doing. We have to seek after God to find him and he will be an agent of change. The use of wind in the scriptures gives us a word picture of strength and ability. Get caught in the weather today!

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. KJV
